Int’l Latitude Service, 1899
39°08′N
From 1899, six observatories on this one parallel tracked the same stars to measure Earth's wobble.
Gaithersburg, Cincinnati, Ukiah, Mizusawa, Carloforte, and Charjui all watched the same stars overhead. Comparing their readings revealed tiny shifts in Earth's rotation axis: the poles do not stay perfectly still.
- International Latitude Service, from 1899
- the Chandler wobble is roughly 9 m of polar motion on a ~433-day cycle
